In focus: The eSSENCE-coordinator Stefan Engblom
Tell us briefly about your background in the university:
I did my PhD in Numerical Analysis for stochastic models of chemical kinetics. I have since broadened my research interests considerably but often find myself working in various stochastic frameworks, ranging from models of living cells to epidemics. I initially got a position at Uppsala university in the area of multicore computing and then became interested in using high-performance computing to problems in statistical inference for computational models. And that is were you broadly find me today!
Have you been part of the eSSENCE community even before you took on the role of coordinator? If so, in what way?
I have previously been involved in various eSSENCE activities, the Academies each year of course, but also in joint Postdoc-projects. The Division of Scientific Computing where I belong is well connected with several projects with very strong e-Science components.
What is coming up in eSSENCE in the future? Anything in particular you are looking forward to?
Right now my eSSENCE activities circle around the grad school towards data-intensive science where we are looking forward to soon welcoming 8 new projects! Next up is also the eSSENCE Academy, this year in Lund.
