On exchange with eSSENCE: Yanxiang Chen
In December 2024, Yanxiang Chen, a PhD student at the Department of Computing Science at Umeå University, participated in an exchange visit within the eSSENCE exchange program. Now that the visit has concluded, we took the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his experiences and impressions from the exchange.
How has the Exchange collaboration contributed to your network?
—During my visits to the Department of Information Technology, Uppsala University, I had the opportunity to work directly with Jörn Zimmerling and Roman Iakymchuk. I shared my current research results with them, opening up an exchange of ideas and suggestions from their mathematical perspectives. This collaboration has expanded my professional network, creating the possibility of future paper collaborations.
How has the collaboration contributed to your research?
—The collaborative work provided valuable insights in numerical methods that enriched my research approach. As a direct outcome of this interaction, I was able to complete and submit a journal paper titled “Enabling Mixed-Precision in Computational Fluids Dynamics Codes.” Their suggestions played a critical role in shaping the mathematical parts and overall quality of the research.
What do you hope the collaboration will lead to in the long term?
—In the long term, I hope that this initial collaboration serves as a foundation for more extensive research projects.
